We're delighted to add organic buckwheat flour to our collection of freshly milled specialty flours. Despite having "wheat" in its name, buckwheat isn't wheat at all. Its unique fruit kernel is actually related to the rhubarb plant. As such, buckwheat contains no gluten*.
We start with buckwheat in the hull, then stone grind the kernels and sift out the large flaky hull pieces, leaving a beautiful light and fluffy buckwheat flour.
Our fresh milled buckwheat flour has such an incredible aroma and flavour. In addition, it is an excellent source of lysine (an essential amino acid) as well as having numerous minerals such as zinc, copper, niacin and manganese.
Our buckwheat flour is milled from BC grown organic buckwheat and provides wonderful flavour and nutrition in:
Pancakes, crėpes and waffles
- pasta and noodles (e.g. Japanese soba noodles)
- quick breads (e.g. banana bread)
(*even though buckwheat doesn't contain gluten, they are milled in the same facility as our grains that contain gluten)
